The trailer of the film: Suffragette
The film takes place in London, in 1912. It deals with (=it is about) a women’s movement called the Suffragettes. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Suffragettes started fighting for women’s rights; they wanted women to have the right to vote. They used violent tactics: they organized riots, they threw stones into windows, they set fire to postboxes, they burnt down buildings…Men didn’t understand the women’s movement and they tried to intimidate them. The Suffragettes broke the law, they defied the government, they were brutally repressed by the police and they were sometimes thrown into jail. They got the right to vote in 1928.
